The perfect rural getaway.
Built on ancestral family land, we are surrounded by an acre of tropical and scented walled gardens, and situated within a fifteen-acre coffee and banana plantation.
Martha’s Farmhouse has been sensitively and attractively furnished, combining both Ugandan and European styles. A large, high-ceilinged and airy open plan living and dining room takes up the centre of the house, with bedroom wings on either side.
Our location takes full advantage of the views across the valley to tea plantations and the magical African sunsets. Guests can relax on our large verandahs, snooze in a hammock, potter in the garden, visit the farm or take a stroll around the village.
At Martha’s Farmhouse, we strive to be sustainable. We are totally off-grid with our water harvesting system and extensive solar power system. There is always plenty of electricity and hot water, however we do encourage our guests to use these resources sensitively.
Eco-Tourism Model Farm
At Martha’s Farmhouse we are in process of setting up a coffee value chain from CROP to CUP on an Eco-tourism Model farm to train local farmers, youth, women and school going children on good agronomic practices, post- harvest handling, quality production in coffee value chain and also improve them with knowledge on the importance of conserving the environment. The model farm will further show our guests at Martha’s farmhouse the various value addition stages of coffee hence promotion of Eco-tourism and coffee-tourism in our community/country.
The 12-acre mature coffee plantation is intercropped with bananas, vanilla and various fruit and non-fruit trees (temperature-reducing management techniques) providing shade to the coffee plantation, promoting sustainable farming practices aimed at protecting biodiversity in agricultural ecosystems
Living off the land for generations.
Our farm is located on land that has been in the family for four generations and, if guests require catering, much of the food served at Martha’s Farmhouse is grown here.
We have recently extended the farm to include a coffee and banana plantation, passion fruit orchard and red hot chilli pepper garden – as well as goats and chickens.
You are welcome to visit the farm and to meet the staff, who mostly come from the local community. As the largest employer in the village, we are transforming lives and we welcome the opportunity to demonstrate and share this with our visitors .
